Dunn Encourages Fairwood Area Residents to Apply for Sound Transit Citizen Committee

Summary

“If Fairwood residents are now expected to pay for its construction, it’s crucial that we have a citizen voice on the oversight committee.”

Story

If you are registered to vote, live in the Sound Transit District, and reside in the Fairwood community, consider applying for the open South King County position on the Sound Transit Citizen Oversight Panel.

Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn encourages those who qualify to consider representing the interests of the Fairwood area in light of the recent passage of Sound Transit 3 (ST3).

“When it comes to Fairwood, ST3 missed the mark,” said Dunn, who represents the community of Fairwood on the King County Council. “If Fairwood residents are now expected to pay for its construction, it’s crucial that we have a citizen voice on the oversight committee.”

Sound Transit created the Citizen Oversight Panel (COP) in 1997 to provide oversight to the agency. Members ensure Sound Transit is meeting its commitment to voters including the building and operation of a regional bus, light rail and commuter rail transit system.
COP members review the details provided by Sound Transit and report findings back to the Sound Transit Board. Areas COP members monitor include:

• Sound Transit’s adherence to its public commitments;
• The open and timely involvement of citizens in the Sound Transit district in decisions affecting local communities and the district as a whole;
• The process of evaluating project alternatives;
• The capital and operating budgets and finance plans;
• Equity in subarea budgets and reporting;
• Discipline in management of schedules and budgets; and • review of agency performance audits.

Those interested in applying can go online to fill out an application and submit a completed application and a resume to:

Dave Somers, Sound Transit Board Chair
401 South Jackson Street
Seattle WA 98104-2826
